Services Begin at Abundant Life of the Assemblies of God
on Sunday, July 30th at 10:00 a.m.
Potluck Picnic in Honor of Pastor Charles Brown’s
10th Anniversary will be held after the service

Colchester, CT- The Colchester Assembly of God has a new name and a new location.  It is now the Abundant Life of the Assemblies of God and is located at 85 Skinner Road in Colchester.

Pastor Charles Brown noted that the reason for the name change was that attendees come from various towns, not just Colchester. The name Abundant Life was chosen because God gives abundant life.

Typically 120 people attend Sunday morning service. The attendees come from Colchester, Lebanon, East Hampton, Salem, Hebron, Lisbon, Ledyard, Middletown, Portland, Columbia and other local towns.

The church is very family oriented with many ministries for the entire family. Five years ago the membership realized they were not able to meet the needs of their church families and the community due to the size of the facility. Consequently, plans were created to build a new, larger church to meet those needs.

The new, 12,000 square foot facility, is still under construction and is expected to be completed by late Fall.  The property houses a sanctuary, offices for the pastor and assistant pastor, church administrator, administrative assistant, youth pastor, missions, infant and toddler nurseries, as well as a library that is open to the public.  The entire lower level of the church is dedicated to training and teaching children and adults.

The church property encompasses 16 acres of woods and plenty of parking.  There are plans to create a future retreat center with cabins, quiet walking paths, and wooded areas for prayer.

On Sunday, July 30th, the first service in the new church will be held at 10:00 a.m.  Immediately after the service, a potluck picnic will be held in celebration of Pastor Charles Brown’s 10th anniversary as Sr. Pastor.

“The public is welcome to attend our very first service at our new location and to join us at our picnic” said Reverend Shirley Ellis. “We are also planning a Grand Opening Event when the construction has been completed at a future date.

The church has been in existence for 55 years. Pastor Charles Brown has been the Sr. Pastor for the last 10 years.  Reverend Shirley Ellis is the Assistant Pastor.   Together they organize a wide range of services for members including a Friday night Youth Group for ages 13-17, a Children’s Service on Sunday mornings, and Ministries for men, women and young adults, throughout the week.

“I may be viewed as the church leader, but we really all work together as a family,” said Pastor Charles Brown. “Each person in our church is a part of the church body.  We work as a whole and help each other out.  We all have our gifts and encourage each other to use those gifts.”

The Abundant Life is a Pentecostal church with a vibrant worship style.  Its upbeat, contemporary band plays every Sunday morning and Sunday night.  Guitars, drums, and keyboards accompany singing and lively preaching.

“We’re not a traditional church,” said Reverend Shirley Ellis. “We teach how the Bible applies to our current lifestyles, and how it helps us today.  We’re not about religion; we are about family and creating a relationship with God.”

Beginning in August Sunday services will be held at 10am and 6pm.
